Based in Nashville, Tennessee, Katie Southworth is a consultant with Natural Resources Defense Council’s Energy & Transportation team and the Sustainable FERC Project. Katie’s work for NRDC focuses on the intersection of climate and energy issues: strengthening state climate policies, utility regulations, and energy markets to support a low-carbon, clean energy grid. Previously, Katie served as Senior Staff at Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development and Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation, where she oversaw the State Energy Program, Volunteer State Solar Initiative and Tennessee Qualified Energy Conservation Bond programs. Katie currently serves on the Steering Committee of the Southeast Climate and Energy Network (SCEN), and is co-chair of the SCEN Fresh Energy Committee. 

Katie’s energy system modeling and policy research with Georgia Tech, Bipartisan Policy Center, and Southeast Energy Efficiency Alliance has been published in a number of peer-reviewed journals, including Energy Policy and Policy & Society. Katie holds a bachelor’s degree from Vanderbilt University, a master’s degree in Mandarin Language and Culture from Zhejiang University and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Tennessee College of Law.
