Jouni Peppanen, Ph.D.

Technical Leader
Electric Power Research Institute

Jouni Peppanen is a Technical Leader at the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI).

Dr. Peppanen received his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Georgia tech in 2016. Mr. Peppanen has also received three M.Sc. degrees: a M.Sc. degree in electrical engineering from the Berlin University of Technology in Germany in 2010, a M.Sc. degree in electrical engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology in 2013, and a M.Sc. degree in Operations Research from Georgia Institute of Technology in 2015.

In his current role at EPRI, Dr. Peppanen works on various research projects developing new methods and approaches for power distribution system modeling, analysis, planning, and operation with high penetrations of energy storage, solar photovoltaics, and other distributed energy resources. In particular, Dr. Peppanen is working with a cross-sectional team of EPRI subject matter experts in developing a practical framework for distribution utilities to consider energy storage as a non-wires alternative.

Dr. Peppanen has authored more than two journal articles, two technical reports, and 11 conference articles. He is a member of IEEE and Cigre.
