Andres Cortes, Ph.D.

Andres Cortes is an Engineer Scientist III at the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI).

He received his Ph.D in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, San Diego in 2015.  He has also received his MS and BS in Electrical Engineering from the Universidad de los Andes in Colombia in 2010 and his BS in Electrical Engineering from the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana in Colombia, in 2008. His Ph.D. research focused on research in optimization algorithms applied to power systems problems such as DER coordination and microgrid control. 

At EPRI, he works on various research projects developing storage valuation and dispatch optimization, dispatch of other Distributed Energy Resources (DER), as well as valuation of microgrid projects. 

He has authored numerous journal, articles, technical reports and conference articles and has served as a technical review for various conferences and journals.
