In examining the steps necessary to successfully deploy and then integrate an energy storage system into the electric grid, it's useful to first take a step back and define what success looks like, which may vary greatly depending on the application, location, and stakeholder.  Energy storage is proven and ready for business; however, policy drivers remain a key component in the deployment calculus, especially with respect to siting decisions and in opening up markets and removing barriers.

This panel will unpack recent regulatory and legislative policy trends that have motivated several major energy storage developments in 2018 - touching on the impact of FERC Order 841 in RTO planning and planned R&D activities, as well as the role of state and legislative directives in shaping energy storage initiatives and studies in Massachusetts and North Carolina.
